Transponder & Chip Keys in Brisbane

Since the late 1990s almost every car has an immobiliser: a security system that will only let the engine start when it reads the correct transponder chip inside your key. That's why a key cut at a hardware store turns in the door but won't start the car — it has no programmed chip. Keymate cuts and programs transponder and chip keys to your vehicle's immobiliser on-site across Brisbane, so your replacement or spare actually starts the engine. We carry the diagnostic and programming equipment for a wide range of makes and models, and we can add a new chip key or re-code your immobiliser after a key is lost or stolen.

  • Programming done on-site — no tow, no dealer wait
  • Makes a cut key actually start the engine, not just turn
  • Immobiliser re-code option for lost or stolen keys
  • Diagnostic gear for a wide range of makes and models

How it works

What to expect when you call

1

Identify the system

Make, model and year tell us your immobiliser type and the transponder your car expects. We confirm the right chip and gear before we come out.

2

Cut to code

We cut the key blade to your vehicle's code so it works the doors and ignition mechanically — the foundation before any programming.

3

Program to the immobiliser

Using automotive diagnostic equipment we program the transponder to your car's immobiliser so it's recognised and the engine will start.

4

Test and hand over

We test that the key starts the car reliably and, where you want it, re-code out any lost keys so they can no longer start the vehicle. Free quote first.

Transponder & Chip Keys FAQs

What is a transponder key and why does it matter?

A transponder key has a tiny chip that your car's immobiliser reads before it lets the engine start. Without the correct programmed chip, a key will turn in the lock but the car won't start. It's an anti-theft feature on almost every car built since the late 1990s.

Why won't a hardware-store cut key start my car?

Because it has no programmed transponder. Cutting shapes the metal to turn the lock; programming codes the chip to your immobiliser. You need both. We do both on-site so your key actually starts the engine.

Can you re-code my immobiliser after my keys were stolen?

Yes, and it's wise. We can program your new key and, for most systems, delete the lost or stolen keys from the immobiliser so they can no longer start the car — restoring your security without a dealership visit.

Do you program European and high-security transponders?

We handle a wide range of makes, including many European vehicles. Some high-security systems need keys ordered in or extra time — tell us your make, model and year and we'll confirm exactly what's involved before we come out.
